The same kind of distortion can be made with a line graph instead of a histogram. The left panel of Figure 8.3 illustrates a steady decline in depression scale scores over a 48-month period. For this scale, a score above 70 represents clinical depression. The apparent improvement over time, consisting of a drop of 3.5 scale points over a 4-year period, is inconsequential. The ordinate makes it appear as though the scale begins at 80. In the right panel, the graph is drawn in correct scale.
